Neuromuscular Therapy

According to the St. John Method of Neuromuscular Therapy, there are five principles that cause pain.

Ischemia: Ischemia causes soft tissues to be very sensitive to touch due to a lack of blood supply.

Trigger Points: Trigger points occur when the nerves fire impulses at a rapid speed into an area of the body that is different than the area, which has been traumatized.

Nerve Compression or Entrapment: Nerve compression or entrapment occurs when there is pressure on a nerve by bone, cartilage or soft tissue.

Postural Distortion: Postural distortion can be defined as an imbalance of the muscular system resulting from movement of the body off the coronal, midsagittal and horizontal planes.

Biochemical Dysfunction: Faulty movement patterns can result from biomechanical dysfunction, which is an imbalance of the musculoskeletal system.

Good HealthNeuromuscular therapy can be a beneficial and economically viable method of treatment. It can release spasms and hypercontraction in the tissues, eliminate trigger points, and even rebuild the strength of injured tissues and assist venous and lymphatic flow.
